"If I Could Turn Back Time," Cher sings. Well, not only can you, it will be incumbent upon you if you're living in North America and want to stay in step with everyone else. This Sunday, at the stroke of 2 a.m. in whichever time zone you reside, clocks go back an hour in all areas observing Daylight Saving Time. (The states of Arizona and Hawaii, for example, do not take part in this time change.)
So it's through the Time Tunnel once again for the bi-annual happening. Club people, that means an extra hour on the dancefloor if your local bar/club/lounge hours extend past 2:00 in the morning! Djs might prepare for the added 60 minutes in their sets for Saturday night. All non-digital clocks need to be set manually, if that's not already perfectly obvious.
And, of course, if you happen to be home Saturday night, you can get that "extra" hour of sleep!

Spring Forward!
My fellow Americans: Dj Buddy Beaverhausen wishes to remind you that clocks go ahead one hour for that silly, antiquated Daylight Saving Time thing at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Lest you expect to be at a club at that hour, might I recommend you set the clock before you leave home? (You may be in no condition to set it when you get back.)
For me, the glory of DST is that it symbolizes and signals the arrival Spring! And, in full synchronicity here in New York, the weather situation has converged. For the past three days, we had snow. Yes, I said snow! Starting today, it's sunny with temperatures rising into the 50s! There's a sense of elation! Is it your meds? Is it psychological? Does your blood thin out when temperatures warm, or is that just an old wives' tale?
Whatever, Spring is a great season in New York. Buds will be blossoming, flowers will be pushing their way up, people will plant tulips around our Bay Ridge neighborhood, birds will chirp out a little background music and, mostly it's a big social season for the City. Clothes will shed as temperatures rise, so it's time again to diet, exercise, and get back into shape. It's also a time for collective rebirth, renewal and, besides, it will stay lighter later. Do you perennial nightbirds really care one way or another?
It may be silly, it may be antiquated, you may lose an hour's sleep overnight (I will opt to sleep the same hours and simply wake up later according to my clock), but you should be happier in the long run. Here's to Daylight Saving Time!
So, have a lovely Spring fever, everyone! Like the late Margaret Whiting, singing this Rogers & Hammerstein song (from "State Fair"):
