BONNIE POINTER - Heaven Must Have Sent You (12 inch - 1979)

There were four Pointer Sisters at the start but sister Bonnie thought she was cute, signed with Motown and quit the sister act, most likely in the name of a ferocious sibling rivalry. She went on to have a huge hit at the start, "Heaven Must Have Sent You!" Classic disco, fabulous song. Heaven must have sent her, it seemed, indeed. Later singles met with lesser success and her career petered out as The Pointer Sisters kept on going. In "Heaven," Bonnie opens with a breathless, Miss Midler-like sigh and even gets Louis Armstrong-like as she vamps and camps her way through this nostalgic disco reinvention of the doo-wop original. Did the other Pointers resent Bonnie ditching them to work solo? At baby-sister June's funeral, Bonnie was told there was no room in the family limo for her. Was that a message?
