Another Terrific Taurus, one of the first ladies of classic disco, Ms Thelma Houston (pronounced like Houston, TX; not Houston St. NYC, and whose name was originally Thelma Jackson, by the by) celebrates her birthday today. Dj Buddy Beaverhausen adds his best wishes for the 67-year-old diva, best known for her 1977 disco smash, "Don't Leave Me This Way." It remains a classic and was oft covered for the dance floor, most successfully in the '80s by The Communards. Ms Houston won a Best Female R&B Vocal Performance Grammy award for the original rendition of "Don't Leave Me This Way." Deservedly.
She also charted with "Saturday Night, Sunday Morning," a disco cover of "Suspicious Minds," "You Used to Hold Me So Tight," "Working Girl" and "Throw You Down."
Below, Almighty Records (UK)'s hiNRG remix of "Don't Leave Me This Way." Happy Birthday, Thelma Houston! Aaaaaaaaah, baby!
