Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Peter Meyhew as Chewbacca are all aboard, along with the newcomers, so it's a fun ride and most entertaining. But, really, can't there be peace in the universe?
Star Wars ~ The Force Awakens is quite predictable but a good popcorn flick. It features a fierce new female hero. Yet it's all fairly predictable and by-the-numbers. It has nothing really new to offer and actually felt like an updated mash-up of the first three films.
It is, however, briskly paced and action packed.
So, just go out, put your feet up and give in to The Force, even if it's no big shakes.
ps: Happy to read about Carrie Fisher responding Forcefully to her body shamers criticizing her appearance in this film. Did you hear that Bill O'Reilly? Lord knows nobody stays young forever... not even in a galaxy far, far away!
We saw it last week and really enjoyed it, as you say, for what it is - entertaining us and tying back to the original, which was good, because I was so crushed at the end of Episode 3. I got misty-eyed during some parts of this one, and I'd much rather feel little, or sentimental, impact than being gutted. This new one also has really good CG, especially notable if you've seen any of the first three episodes filmed recently. It very much reminded me of the very first day the first SW film showed near us and my dad insisted we drive 45 minutes to the closest theater showing it in Dolby. We had to stand in line - it was such an event. I was heartened to see the former cast members, and happy they'd not been frozen in time. Let's be honest - no one else has! :)
